Handmade quilts of all sizes, unique tote bags, pillows, table runners & more
So much beautiful fabric waiting to be cut and transformed — so few hours in the day!! I started making my own clothes when I was 12, studied fabric design at Pratt Institute and FIT in New York City, and made my first quilt when I was 22 out of all those scraps I couldn’t throw away. Career demands and raising three children in several states limited my sewing time, but since retiring in 2012 I’ve been able to dive back in full time.
New Mexico has always enchanted me — I lived here in the 60’s and 70’s and came back for good in 1995. Our sweet piece of land we call “lunadanza” on the Rio Chama provides daily inspiration, the ever-changing colors in the sky and the rhythm of the seasons provide a peaceful place to create. The community of talented artists in this valley provide stimulus and the energy to try new things.
I find great joy (and sanity) in pulling diverse fabrics together, spending hours on layout (lots of math involved), to create a new, unique whole out of all those separate pieces. Each quilt has a story made up of fabrics with their own stories. Making quilts and “quilty things” has become my meditation, my challenge, my solace, a way to tie up life’s loose ends, and the hole in my pocket where all the money goes! The process brings me joy, and hopefully the results carry that joy to others as well.
